Clovelly is a wonderful, unusual, and ancient fishing village situated on a 400-foot cliff. The village is privately owned and they charge an admission of £8.25 for adults and £4.80 for children aged 7 to 16, but children under 7 go free. You can also buy a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) for £22.25.

The district is an extensively dissected upland, descending southwesterly and westerly from Exmoor, a bleak, misty moor at an elevation of about 1,500 feet (455 metres) in the northeast, to sea level at the sand dunes embanking the River Taw estuary on the west coast. Much of the area is formed of dark shales.
